GREETINGS Welcome to Aichi Scout Council Web Site ! We would like to introduce Aichi Prefecture and Aichi Scout Council in this page. We, Aichi Scout Council have been promoting the Scout Movement in Aichi Prefecture. And then we hope you will come back to this web site by clicking the back button. ADMINISTRATIVE DATA Aichi Prefecture is located in the center of Japan. Nagoya is the capital city of Aichi Prefecture and is connected by bullet train with Tokyo, Kyoto, Osaka and Fukuoka. It takes about 2 hours from Tokyo to Nagoya by bullet train. The population of Aichi Prefecture is about 7 million and it is the fourth largest prefecture in Japan. The gross production of Aichi Prefecture is approximately 32,000 billion yen (Annual report, 2000) and 34,000 billion yen worth of industrial products were shipped in 2000. That number is the top in Japan and it is growing.  SCOUTING IN AICHI We have four blocks and 23 districts in Aichi Scout Council. Each block contains several districts and all the districts belong to a block. There are some 24,000 scouts and scouters(leaders) in our Council, almost equal to the number of Tokyo Scout Council. The Rover movement in our Council has been recognized as the top level in our Association and Aichi Rovers Conference (sorry, Japanese only) may be the most active in Japanese Rover movement. We have delegated many rovers in Aichi as the contingent crew members of Bangladesh-Japan Joint ORT Project. EACH BLOCK DATA Nagoya block (yellow area) is located in Nagoya city and has 7 districts. Our Council Headquarters is located in Nagoya city. Nagoya city has the 4th largest population and it is the Prefectural capital. Nagoya port is located at the southern edge of the city and deals with the largest amount of imported and exported goods. We have a famous festival named 'Nagoya Festival' with 3 local heroes in the past marching. Owari block (blue area) is located at the nothern part of Aichi Prefecture and has 6 districts. The World Exposition, Aichi, Nagoya 2005 will be held at Aichi Youth Park located in this block. We have a famous festival Ichinomiya Tanabata Festival in Ichinomiya city. The present Nagoya airport is actually located in Toyoyama town in this block. And Toyotama town is the birthplace of a famous Major League Baseball player Ichiro. Chita block (pink area) is located at Chita peninsula and has 4 districts. Because Chita block are arounded by sea, many scouts programme relating sea have often been held in Chita block. Also we have one of the most famous Japanese festival named Handa Dashimatsuri in our area, many scouts and rovers in our block have joined as the players in the festival. Chubu International Airport (Centrair), a successor of the current airport has been constructed in front of our block in the sea. Mikawa block (green area) is located at the eastern part of Aichi Prefecture and has 6 districts. We have beautiful green scenery of mountains and forests in this blocks. Our Council Camp site "Camp Yoshikawa" is located at Shinshiro city in this block. This area has Okazaki city, the birthplace of Tokugawa's (a family of the General of Edo era 1603-1867), and Toyota city, the hometown of Toyota Motor Corporation. White space is almost covered by tall mountains and we have no scout groups here. |
